On April 26, 2025, the Twic East Youth Association (TEYA) in Juba proudly commissioned the Late Lt. Gen. Amb. Bior (Asuod) Ajang Duot Memorial Hall,
a significant tribute to one of South Sudan’s most esteemed liberation heroes. This event not only honored the enduring legacy of Gen. Bior-Asuod but also marked a pivotal moment in TEYA’s mission to empower youth and foster community development.
Honoring a National Hero
Lt. Gen. Amb. Bior Ajang Duot, affectionately known as “Bior-Asuod,” was a towering figure in South Sudan’s history. Born in Kongor, Twic East County, he served as a senior commander in the SPLA during the liberation struggle and later held prominent roles in the Ministry of Defense and Ministry of Foreign Affairs. His leadership extended beyond the battlefield; he was a dedicated educator, community elder, and chairperson of the Twic East Community in Juba.
Following his passing on August 13, 2024, due to a heart attack, tributes poured in from across the nation. President Salva Kiir and other dignitaries mourned the loss of a man whose life was defined by courage, humility, and service.
His burial at the Heroes’ Cemetery in Juba was attended by leaders from all walks of life, reflecting the deep respect he commanded.
A Hall of Legacy and Purpose
The commissioning of the memorial hall stands as a testament to Gen. Bior-Asuod’s lifelong commitment to education, unity, and youth empowerment. Located at the TEYA Center in Jebel Lemon, Juba, the hall will serve as a multipurpose venue for community gatherings, leadership training, educational workshops, and cultural events.
This initiative aligns with TEYA’s broader vision of uplifting the Twic East community through practical education and sustainable development. The hall complements ongoing projects such as the TEYA Vocational Institute, further demonstrating TEYA’s dedication to creating opportunities for the youth.
A Lasting Symbol of Service
As TEYA Chairperson Arok Dut Arok emphasized during the ceremony, the memorial hall is more than just a building—it is a living symbol of Gen. Bior-Asuod’s values and vision. It embodies the spirit of selfless service and the pursuit of a better future for all South Sudanese.
In the words of Simon Yak Deng, a close associate of the late general, “His contributions will go on forever. He is a man of few words, strong in compassion, visionary, committed, and he truly 'walks the talk' when it comes to human discipline and ideals.”
The Late Lt. Gen. Amb. Bior (Asuod) Ajang Duot Memorial Hall stands as a beacon of hope and a call to action for future generations to uphold the principles of unity, education, and community service.
